Lightning and Dust Storms Cause Six Deaths in Punjab
Tragic Incidents in Punjab
LAHORE: Six people lost their lives on Friday evening due to
separate incidents of lightning and a dust storm in Punjab, as reported by the
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in a press release on Saturday.
Injuries Reported
A spokesperson from the PDMA stated that at least five
individuals were injured as a result of the dust storm in the province.
Affected Districts
The lightning incidents impacted the Sialkot and Rawalpindi
districts, according to the spokesperson.
Response from PDMA
Earlier, DG Punjab PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia instructed the
deputy commissioners of the affected districts to ensure the injured receive
the best possible medical treatment.
Support for Families
Speaking to the media, the official announced that financial
relief would be offered to the families of the deceased. He also assured that
all necessary rescue and support services are prepared to address any arising
complications.
Safety Advisories
The DG PDMA urged residents to stay in safe locations during
severe weather conditions and to avoid going outside during thunderstorms.
Recent Related Incidents
Last month, lightning strikes claimed at least 24 lives in
Balochistan and Punjab as heavy rains hit the provinces, according to officials.
Upcoming Heatwave Alert
In a separate statement today, the PDMA cautioned that a
heatwave is expected in Punjab until Monday, with temperatures possibly rising
up to 45°C to 48°C, Radio Pakistan reported.
Areas of Concern
The PDMA spokesperson noted that the heatwave might be
severe in the southern Punjab districts of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, DG Khan,
and Multan.
Preventive Measures
All concerned departments have been directed to remain
vigilant to address any emergencies. The spokesperson said that citizens are
being informed about the dangers of the heatwave through the media.
